Happy NEW Year – One Word 2013

Happy NEW Year – One Word 2013

New_OW2013_smFinally decided to share my “one word” for 2013. No, this isn’t a “New Year, New You” type of moment…although I am a firm believer in the fact that we are always changing (anything alive is) and that it’s either for the better or the worse. My deciding to focus on the word NEW was more about some of these things…

  • The Bible reminds us that The Lord never changes, but also tells us that His mercies are new every morning {Lamentations 3:23}. This walk with Him is a daily thing, a 24/7/365 choice to take up my cross and follow Him. Each day He wakes me up is a NEW opportunity to follow and serve my Savior.
  • I need some positive NEW in my life. Don’t get me wrong, my life is full of blessings…but too much of my NEW in the last year or so has been not-so-positive, attached to words like chronic, elevated (in a bad way), pain, challenge, struggle. God may not choose to take any of that away in 2013, but I can choose to focus on the positive.
  • I want to nurture a deeper, richer love of my Jesus this year…to me, there’s no better NEW than a new understanding of His love, His character, His grace.
  • The first goal I’ve set for the new year is to do 13 NEW things. Run-of-the-mill trying a new recipe, buying a new outfit, reading a new book don’t count here. I’m focusing on things like making new friends, learning new skill sets, completely changing the way I normally do something (hopefully for the better).

I’ve got a whole lot more about NEW running around in my heart and mind to share, but I’ll stop here for now. I hope as I explore newness in the coming year you’ll be able to find some hope, encouragement and practical help!

I will sing a new song to you, O God; upon a ten-stringed harp I will play to you,

Psalm 144:9
