My First Pinterest Project: No Sew Vest

Vest1

So...I have like 536 pins on Pinterest. Not all of them are recipes to try or craft projects to tackle, but a number of them are. I actually saw someone wearing this vest in person, heard she found it on Pinterest, and searched for it. It is literally no-sew.  All you need is 1 yard of jersey knit fabric that won’t unravel.  Being a bit larger than this lovely young lady, I made sure I got the wider fabric {58/60}.  Check the selvage edges, sometimes they will heat the selvages so they … [Read more...]

31 Days of Progress Day 27 :: Baked Chimichangas with Cilantro Lime Sour Cream

BakedChimichangas

This is actually a recipe I adapted from way back {I think from Rachel Ray’s 30 Minute Meals}…it’s really more of a concept than a recipe.  Don’t worry.  I’m going to give you an actual recipe.  Though you will see I had ingredients left over, so I’m not sure exactly how many it would have made.  What makes it part of 31 Days of Progress is that I revisited this easy meal I had almost forgotten about and tried it in a slightly new way!  Here’s the basics. The ingredients. … [Read more...]

31 Days of Progress Day 26 :: How to Love Your Adoptive Neighbor

AdoptionRocks

I promise I’m going to post Heart Choices Parts 5 & 6.  But, because today is Thursday {and that’s Campus Kids Bible Club day – and the kiddos need my focus this afternoon}, and because she did a rockin’ great job articulating it I am going to link you to Jen Hatmaker’s post: How to Be the Village. It is full of just awesome, practical, honest advice on how to love your neighbors through their adoption.  It is also good sensitivity training for many circumstances…so that we … [Read more...]

31 Days of Progress “Day 25″ :: I Love to Learn!

LearningIsFun

As I typed that title I couldn’t help hearing “I Love to Laugh” from Mary Poppins in my head.  I do that, do you?  I tell people all the time, “My life has a soundtrack.  You just can’t hear it.” Ha! Anywho…I’m finally back, sleeping a little better the last couple of nights.  Still waking with headaches, but I think that’s because it’s still so warm here and blasted dry!!! Rain and cooler temps in the forecast for Wednesday, woo hoo! But back to learning.  Do you … [Read more...]

Another Glitch

20111031-214653.jpg

Well, just like these geese took their sweet time letting us proceed to World Market a few weeks ago...my computer is not letting me post to my blog through Windows Live Writer. Something's glitchy. I'm working on it. Stubborn enough not to try posting through WordPress just yet (much more time consuming). Thanks for being patient. Shooting for a posting marathon tomorrow. I'll schedule the posts over 2 days to spare you the reader congestion. Later Lovelies!! … [Read more...]

31 Days of Progress Day 24 :: DIY Black Furniture and A Message

BeBackSoon

Each day is full of new lessons to learn, victories to celebrate, and mistakes to keep one humble {oh, and teach us a thing or two}.  I’ve been quiet this week, it started with a 2-day migraine and the rest has been the worst case of insomnia I’ve ever had for a week straight. At my age, 2-4 hours a night is not going to cut it.  I had to use what reliable mental energy I had for feeding my family, leading my small group, etc.  I just didn’t trust my sleep-deprived mind to put the … [Read more...]

31 Days of Progress Day 23 :: Simon & Garfunkel Chicken? Plus Recipe

GrilledChicken

Okay, that’s actually a pretty bad reach…but when you see the ingredients of my new marinade I used for the chicken my husband grilled the other night it will make a little more sense.  Sorry for the not so pretty picture.  You can see he put a pretty good char on it.  Not so good for us, but it sure did taste good! It feels funny to even call this a recipe.  In fact, I didn’t measure my seasonings {forgive me} but I think it’s one of those things you just do “to taste”.  I … [Read more...]

31 Days of Progress Day 22 :: Heart Choices Part 4

HeartChoices

In order to love and serve my neighbor better, I need to check my attitudes and exchange right ones for the wrong ones. Recap: Attitudes are patterns of behavior, choices of the heart, developed over time. We choose our attitudes. In order to change an attitude, we must admit we chose it in the first place and truly desire to change it! We must replace a wrong attitude with a right one, lest the wrong one return and develop stronger roots. {Matthew 12: 43-45} We can replace an … [Read more...]

31 Days of Progress Day 21 :: Fun Just Gets Better

FamilyFun

You’re never too old to have fun with your family…or to discover a new way of having fun together! Try googling family fun and see the images that come up.  For the most part you will see pictures of young families, with elementary-to-middle-school age children smiling, laughing, having fun together.  I think that’s a little sad. As children get holder I think the moments of hilarious frivolity become even more dear, maybe because they are fewer and farther between, harder fought.  My … [Read more...]

31 Days of Progress Day 20 :: Cute Fall Color Plus a Giveaway

PoLFlash

If you ever attended a Southern Living at Home party back in the day you probably saw the Petals of Light candle holders.  These were a favorite with customers.  I was a consultant for a while {as well as for it’s sister/spin-off company, with which it has now merged to become Willow House}.  Anyway, probably during a special deal I picked up a number of these cute little sets. They were designed to hold tealight candles and are plenty deep for that purpose.  Probably the other most … [Read more...]
